Waiting periods

A waiting period (periodo de carencia) is the time from joining until a benefit can be used. In the group policy they are the same as in an individual policy — there is no separate table just because it is a company.

  • General practice, emergencies and dental: from day one
  • Tests, procedures and hospital: up to six months
  • Pregnancy: one month
  • Birth: ten months

If the staff are coming from another company, the waiting periods do not start again. We need two things: the previous policy and the last receipt paid. This is the usual case when a company switches — and the reason not to let the old policy lapse too early. We confirm it to you in writing before you sign.

The full table is on our waiting periods page. If you are moving from another insurer, see changing insurance company as well.

What we need to set it up

  • From two employees
  • Entry age: 0 to 64
  • The company's TC2
  • The deed of incorporation (escritura de constitución)
  • One health questionnaire per person
  • The NIE of each insured person

The health questionnaire is filled in with us, in the office or on the phone — we never ask about anyone's health on this website. If anything in it changes the price or the cover, we tell you before we start, not at the end.

Asking for the paperwork at the start is not our bureaucracy: it is what stops the policy from sitting half-finished exactly when someone needs it.

Good to know

  • Health insurance does not replace the Seguridad Social, it comes on top of it. The employee chooses the doctor and waits less for a test or a specialist appointment.
  • For a quote we only need the number of employees, what the company does and the ages. Names come later.
  • The insured people need to be resident in Spain.
  • The family can go on the same policy: partner and children, with the libro de familia. Staff ask for this often, and it works out better than a separate policy.
  • Co-payment (copago) means the employee pays a small amount per appointment and the monthly premium is lower. Without co-payment it is the other way round. On the reimbursement option you normally get 90 % of the invoice back; the exact percentage is in the policy.
  • People can be added and removed during the year. If someone joins in March, they do not have to wait until January.
  • How the premiums are treated in your accounts and payroll is for your gestor; we give them the documents they need.

  • Allianz also has group policies for life, accident, savings, travel and pensions. If more than one is of interest, we can cover them in a single meeting.
